The size, scope, and complexity of manufacturing in today’s global economy are increasing. To stay competitive, successful manufacturers constantly analyze, redesign, and upgrade their technologies, information infrastructure, business processes, supply chains, marketing strategies, and customer relations. The challenge for manufacturing education in today’s engineering and business schools is to provide students with both discipline-specific fundamentals and multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills.

To meet such a challenge, Syracuse University created a multi-disciplinary research and education center, the Institute for Manufacturing Enterprises, with the mission of promoting learning in manufacturing enterprises through teaching, application, integration, discovery, and service. Syracuse University began the preparation to become a University Alliance member in 1999.the SAP University Alliance Program at Syrcuse University provides a unique set of tools and community to realize the IME’s vision and advance the IME’s mission.
